Clinical picture
Depressed scars are due to loss of skin, subcutaneous tissue, and often muscle and bone.
These scars can be caused by accidents on public roads, acts of violence or as a result of surgery. It is common to see depressed scars after a cesarean section and / or surgical interventions for peritoneal pictures.
Fat has little defense against infectious processes and when an infection occurs there is a loss of this tissue. The depressed scar is produced by the replacement of the tissue in that area with connective scar tissue.
