It is mediated by <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"435\">cytotoxic<\/span> T cells and classified as a type IV immune reaction. The target of the attack may be a drug, a <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"718\">metabolite<\/span> of the drug, or a protein bound to the drug. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"148\">Inflammation<\/span> follow the launch of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"434\">cytokines<\/span> and another effector <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"141\">immune cells<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCuales-son-las-caracteristicas-clinicas-de-la-erupcion-morbiliforme-de-drogas\"><\/span>What are the clinical features of morbilliform drug eruption?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In the first instance, a morbilliform rash usually appears 1 to 2 weeks after starting the drug, but can occur up to 1 week after stopping it. On re-exposure to the offending (or related) drug, skin lesions appear within 1 to 3 days. The start date of each new medication is documented along with the onset of the rash. The calendar must extend at least 2 weeks and up to a month. Medications can be classified as unlikely or probable causes based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Time relative to onset of eruption<\/li>\n<li>The specific drug; some drugs can be excluded because they rarely cause <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1136\">allergy<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>Past patient experience with other drugs in the same class<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are no routine tests to make the diagnosis or identify the culprit drug. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"813\">Differential diagnosis<\/span> includes measles, rubella, scarlet fever, non-specific toxic <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"90\">erythema<\/span> associated with infection, Kawasaki disease, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"43\">connective tissue<\/span> disease and acute graft versus<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1313\">host<\/span> disease.<\/p>\n<p>Tests are generally not necessary if the cause has been identified and stopped, the rash is mild, and the patient is fine. They may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Routine blood count, liver and kidney function tests, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"946\">C-reactive protein<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"621\">Serology<\/span> for infections that can cause similar rashes<\/li>\n<li>Possible skin <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"24\">biopsy<\/span>, which shows the interface <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"53\">dermatitis<\/span>, mixed <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"228\">perivascular<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"543\">infiltration<\/span> and another <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1419\">histopathological<\/span> features.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"83\">Eosinophilia<\/span> It is supportive but not diagnostic.
