Is <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"882\">organism<\/span> it is a yeast-like fungus with budding and filamentous forms (pseudohyphal and hyphal). It can cause a wide range of clinical manifestations ranging from mild <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"349\">acute<\/span> superficial to fatal infections <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"67\">disseminated<\/span> disease. Disseminated candidiasis is seen almost exclusively in acquired or inherited immunodeficiencies. Superficial candidiasis is the most common form.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Histologia-de-candidiasis\"><\/span>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"128\">Histology<\/span> of yeast infection<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In candidiasis, sections show predominantly <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"528\">spongy<\/span> changes in the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"85\">epidermis<\/span> with irregular <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"2\">acanthosis<\/span>warm <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"269\">spongiosis<\/span> and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"490\">inflammatory<\/span> changes (figure 1). In the superficial epidermis, the characteristic feature is the presence of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"196\"><span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"442\">neutrophils<\/span><\/span>  at <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"273\">stratum corneum<\/span> and upper layers of the epidermis. The stain highlights the pseudohyphal or hyphal forms (figure 3, arrows) that penetrate the keratinized. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"87\">epithelium<\/span>. In addition, there are yeast forms in the superficial stratum corneum (Figure 3, red arrowhead).<\/li>\n<li>PAS staining can also be used to highlight <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"883\">organisms<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Diagnostico-diferencial-de-candidiasis-patologia\"><\/span>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"813\">Differential diagnosis<\/span> of yeast infection <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"223\">pathology<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"792\">Pustular<\/span> psoriasis, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1056\">subcorneal<\/span> generalized subcorneal acute pustolosis <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1130\">pustulosis<\/span> - Spongiform postulation can also be seen under these conditions. Special spots should be carefully examined in cases of psoriasis to exclude a fungus <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1544\">etiology<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Impetigo: Spongiform postulation is a hallmark of impetigo. Gram stain can highlight <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"937\">bacterial<\/span> impetigo colonies that GMS and PAS stains will not reveal fungal forms.<\/p>\n<p>Dermatophytosis: Spongiform postulation is a hallmark of tinea cruris and corporis. The special spots show septate hyphae without budding candida yeasts. The distinction can sometimes be difficult. Candida often penetrates the keratinized epithelium (Figure 3) rather than dermatophytosis, which generally involves only the stratum corneum.<\/p>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Candida albicans es la especie m\u00e1s frecuente de Candida que infecta a humanos.
