<\/span>How is a diagnosis of chloracne made?<\/span><\/h2>\nBlood test levels of halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons are unreliable for diagnosis, due to the redistribution of chemicals around the body and its metabolism<\/span>.<\/p>\nDiagnosis is based primarily on history and expert clinical opinion. Biopsies<\/span> of the affected skin may show a reduction in the normal density of the sebaceous glands and the development of hamartomas of the skin. Immunohistochemical tests (eg, CYP1A1) can be performed on hamartomas to determine the up or down regulation of gene expression to support clinical diagnosis.<\/p>\n<\/span>What is the treatment for chloracne?<\/span><\/h2>\nOnce chloracne has been recognized, the source of exposure should be identified and the affected person and other workers should be removed from the exposure.<\/p>\n
