Choristomas are classified according to their tissue type. Sometimes they arise within the skin or oral cavity, and can also occur in the internal organs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dermoid <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"49\">cyst<\/span> is made up of the components of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"85\">epidermis<\/span> and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"61\">dermis<\/span>, including <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"122\">hair<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>The choristoma of the oral cavity may contain <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"846\">epidermal<\/span> components (skin, hair <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1301\">follicles<\/span>, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"262\">sebaceous<\/span> glands), bone (bony), cartilage, lingual, gastric, respiratory, salivary or glial tissue.<\/li>\n<li>The phaquomatous choristoma of the eyelid or orbit contains embryological precursor cells of the lens (lenticular anlage).<\/li>\n<li>The epibulbar or corneal choristoma arises in the limbus of the eye and may include dermoid, lipodermoid, or other tissues.<\/li>\n<li>The choristoma within the ear canal usually contains cartilage.<\/li>\n<li>Choristoma of the salivary gland has been reported in the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"10\">previous<\/span> chest wall and chest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQuien-contrae-el-coristoma\"><\/span>Who gets the choristoma?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The choristoma can be diagnosed at any age from birth to old age. For example, a dermoid cyst arises from <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"87\">epithelium<\/span> trapped along embryonic fusion lines. The reason why they occur late in life is unknown in some cases. Oral choristoma can also occur in the gum or mouth <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"189\">mucous membrane<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The phakomatous choristoma has a similar appearance, but it arises around the orbit or the eyelid region.
