In other countries, it may also be available as current<\/span> vaginal foam cream<\/span> and oral suspension.<\/p>\nClindamycin is rapidly absorbed after oral administration, and absorption is not affected by food.<\/p>\n

Clindamycin is also available to treat acne in combination with benzoyl peroxide.<\/p>\n

<\/span>What are the side effects of clindamycin?<\/span><\/h2>\nOral clindamycin is generally well tolerated. However, there are significant side effects that can affect some people taking the medication orally or by injection (they are rarely seen with topical preparations).<\/p>\n
<\/span>Gastrointestinal effects<\/span><\/h3>\nClindamycin has been associated with colitis<\/span> (inflammation<\/span> of the intestine); this is caused by a toxin<\/span> produced from excessive growth of a bacterium<\/span>, Clostridium difficile. Symptoms can range from mild watery diarrhea to severe, persistent diarrhea with fever<\/span>, abdominal cramps and the passage of blood and bugger<\/span>. It can be potentially dangerous. If significant diarrhea develops while taking clindamycin, the medication should be discontinued. A stool test can show the presence of the toxin. Treatment depends on the severity of the symptoms. Stopping the medication may be enough; however, more severe cases may require hospitalization for intravenous fluid and antibiotic therapy.<\/p>\n<\/span>Allergic rashes<\/span><\/h3>\nDrug induced urticaria<\/span>rarely erythema<\/span> multiform and anaphylactoid<\/span> Reactions have been reported.<\/p>\n<\/span>Liver disease<\/span><\/h3>\n\n- \nJaundice<\/span> (dark urine, yellow eyes and skin)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/span>\nMusculoskeletal<\/span> side effects<\/span><\/h3>\n\n- Rarely, polyarthritis<\/span> (inflammation of several joints) has been reported.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/span>What are the precautions when clindamycin is prescribed?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n- Safety for use in pregnancy has not been established.<\/li>\n
- Clindamycin has been reported to appear in breast milk.<\/li>\n
- If therapy is prolonged, the liver and renal<\/span> Functional tests can be monitored periodically.<\/li>\n
- Clindamycin may potentiate the action of neuromuscular blocking agents.<\/li>\n
- Clindamycin may counteract the effects of erythromycin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
