The clinical characteristics of LE are highly variable. The revised Cutaneous Lupus Erythematosus Severity Index and Area Index (RCLASI) can be used to assess disease activity and damage.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lupus-eritematoso-cutaneo-agudo\"><\/span>\n<p>Acute cutaneous lupus erythematosus<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Acute cutaneous LE affects at least 50% in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Many are sick, young, fair-skinned females.<\/p>\n<p>Specific features of acute cutaneous LE may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1474\">Malar<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"704\">eruption<\/span> o &#039;butterfly <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"255\">eruption<\/span>&#039;(<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"90\">erythema<\/span> and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"201\">edema<\/span> of cheeks, preserving nasolabial folds) that last hours to days<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"967\">Erythematous<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1188\">papular<\/span> rash on the arms, sometimes forming large <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"368\">plates<\/span> and spreading widely<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"706\">Photosensitivity<\/span> (An eruption around the sun recently<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"311\">exposed skin<\/span>)<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Cheilitis and mouth <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1279\">ulcers<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>Blisters (<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"498\">bullous<\/span> SLE) and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"536\">erosions<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>SLE can also affect joints, kidneys, lungs, heart, liver, brain, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"953\">blood vessels<\/span> (<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1091\">vasculitis<\/span>) and blood cells.
