<\/span>What is the cause of childhood acne?<\/span><\/h2>\nThe cause of childhood acne is unknown. It is believed to be genetic<\/span> in origin. Usually not due to excess testosterone<\/span> or other androgenic hormones, and children with childhood acne often look quite normal.<\/p>\nAcne is rare in prepubertal children older than 2 to 6 years. It is associated with higher levels of androgens<\/span> than expected for the child's age. These can result in virilization<\/span>.
