It manifests as painful erythema (reddening of the skin) of the palms and soles, with or without <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"499\">bullas<\/span> (large blisters). Swelling, tingling, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"610\">hyperkeratosis<\/span>, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1772\">fissure<\/span> and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1278\">ulceration<\/span> It can also happen. These symptoms may be preceded by <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"843\">dysesthesia<\/span> (Altered skin sensation). The pain of this <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"255\">eruption<\/span> It can be so severe that daily activities are limited.<\/p>\n<p>If recognized early, the usual course of acral erythema is <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"63\">peeling<\/span> (detachment of the outer layers of the skin) followed by re-epithelialization (new growth of the outer layers of the skin). It is also known as syringometaplasia and affects the upper part of the eccrine sweat duct. The pain and discomfort of mucositis can have a major impact on the nutritional status of the patient.<\/p>\n<p>Mucositis treatment is supportive and aimed at <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"902\">symptom<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1854\">control<\/span>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Routine oral care:\n<ul>\n<li>Denture Removal<\/li>\n<li>Gentle cleaning of the mouth and teeth.<\/li>\n<li>Oral rises with salt and baking soda<\/li>\n<li>Regular antiseptic and antifungal mouthwashes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Mucosa lining agents:\n<ul>\n<li>Topical kaolin \/ pectin<\/li>\n<li>Diphenhydramine<\/li>\n<li>Oral antacids<\/li>\n<li>Maltodextrin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Analgesia\n<ul>\n<li>Pieces of ice<\/li>\n<li>Topical local <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1206\">anesthetic<\/span>  solutions<\/li>\n<li>Topical morphine sulfate in water<\/li>\n<li>Oral analgesia or intravenous analgesia with opioids may be necessary in more extensive cases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reacciones-cutaneas-escleroticas\"><\/span>\n<p> Sclerotic skin reactions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Scar-like skin reactions that mimic morpho or systemic. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"260\">sclerosis<\/span>  may accompany the use of bleomycin and docetaxel.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, these reactions have resolved after stopping the medication. The exact mechanism is unknown, but these drugs are postulated to increase the activity of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"101\">fibroblasts<\/span> on the skin<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fenomeno-vascular-Fenomeno-de-Raynaud-y-vasculitis\"><\/span>\n<p> Vascular phenomenon <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"256\">Raynaud&#039;s phenomenon<\/span> and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1091\">vasculitis<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>  Raynaud&#039;s phenomenon is an exaggerated response from the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"953\">blood vessels<\/span> at cold temperature or emotional stress. The symptoms are those of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"811\">demarcated<\/span> skin color changes of the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1268\">digits<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>  Vasculitis refers to inflammation of the vessel walls and, as a result of this inflammation, there is a commitment to <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1265\">lumen<\/span> of the vessel causing the tissue <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"153\">ischemia<\/span> and necrosis.<\/p>\n<p>Vasculitis can present as  <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1349\">livedo<\/span> reticularis, ulceration, and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"283\">thromboembolism<\/span> (blood clots)<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQue-drogas-son-responsables-11\"><\/span>What drugs are responsible?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Medications that cause Raynaud&#039;s phenomenon or vasculitis include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bleomycin<\/li>\n<li>Cisplatin<\/li>\n<li>Gemcitabine<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Rituximab<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tratamiento-de-vasculitis\"><\/span>Vasculitis treatment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The correct diagnosis of vasculitis is important and a skin biopsy aids in the diagnosis. Vasculitis treatment involves discontinuing the offending drug and the use of high-dose systemic corticosteroids.<\/p>\n<p>Raynaud&#039;s phenomenon often improves with discontinuation of the drug. Simple measures like avoiding cold exposure, hand warmers, and wearing protective clothing are universally useful. Medications that can be used include calcium channel blockers and ACE inhibitors that promote vasodilation (opening) of the blood vessels in the fingers.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Xerosis\"><\/span>\n<p> Xerosis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/drhoogstra.com.ar\/wiki\/ictiosis-vulgar\/\" title=\"xerosis\">xerosis<\/a> (dry skin) is commonly seen in patients receiving epidermal growth factor receptor EGFR inhibitors). Sometimes dry skin can be seen with <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"912\">concomitant<\/span> similar greasy scales <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"378\">seborrheic<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"53\">dermatitis<\/span>. EGFR inhibitors are postulated to arrest the growth of keratinocytes (skin cells) and initiate terminal maturation. Mucous skin surfaces such as the vagina, mouth, and eyes can also be affected.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Otras-reacciones\"><\/span>\n<p> Other reactions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Like other drugs, chemotherapy drugs can cause other <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1333\">Adverse reactions<\/span>, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"440\">Anaphylaxis<\/span> <\/li>\n<li>  Drug <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"943\">hypersensitivity<\/span> syndrome <\/li>\n<li>  Fixed drug eruption <\/li>\n<li>  Flagellate erythema <\/li>\n<li>  Drug-induced photosensitivity <\/li>\n<li>  Stevens Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. <\/li>\n<li> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1646\">Urticaria<\/span> <\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"201\">Edema<\/span> (Swelling) - Edema of the face, eyelids, ankles and forearms has been reported with the use of multi-kinase inhibitors such as imatinib.  <\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"139\">Hypopigmentation<\/span> - Pale skin patches have been reported with multi-kinase inhibitors and are more common in patients with darker skin types.
