Allergy<\/span>:<\/strong><\/td>\nAllergic contact with the fingertip dermatitis<\/span> It is caused by contact with recently damaged plants and bulbs, and results in a condition known as tulip fingers. The first reports of cases of allergic contact dermatitis caused by Alstroemeria species appeared in the early 1970s. Gardeners, florists, and homemakers are most at risk. Typically, patients are florists with red, thickened, divided, and tender fingertips on both hands. Airborne contact dermatitis has also been reported. This may reflect sensitivity to sesquiterpene lactone. More unusually, alstroemeria has been observed to cause depigmentation<\/span>. A florist developed a feeling of tightness in the throat, allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, urticaria<\/span>and facial angioedema<\/span> attributable to exposure to alstroemeria. For most patients, allergy leads to a career change.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
Cross reactions:<\/strong><\/td>\nBomarea, Dioscorea hispida, Erythronium, Gagea, Fritillaria and at least one species of onion.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
