Alcohol in concentrations&gt; 60% will destroy <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"526\">pathogens<\/span> like the SARS-CoV-19 virus. <\/li>\n<li>Preoperative skin disinfection: antiseptics applied to the operation site to reduce the flora of the resident skin. Caution should be exercised in the facial use of solutions containing chlorhexidine, as they can harm the eye and cause <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1033\">keratitis<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1485\">Mucous membrane<\/span> Disinfection: Antiseptic irrigations may be applied to the bladder, urethra, or vagina to treat infections or to clean the cavity before catheterization.<\/li>\n<li>Prevention and treatment of infected wounds and burns: antiseptic preparations are available <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1202\">on the counter<\/span> from your pharmacist to treat minor cuts, abrasions and burns.<\/li>\n<li>Treatment of mouth and throat infections: Dequalinium Chloride has antibacterial and antifungal properties and is the active ingredient in antiseptic throat lozenges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFSon-los-antisepticos-efectivos-y-seguros\"><\/span>Are antiseptics effective and safe?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The effectiveness and complete safety of antiseptics have proven to be quite difficult to establish.<\/p>\n<p>Due to concern about the potential for <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"380\">systemic<\/span> Absorption, in December 2017, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ruled that 24 ingredients, including triclosan, are used in over-the-counter (over-the-counter) antiseptic products (such as hand washes, scrubs \/ scrubs). patient hands and antiseptics) preparations) intended for use by healthcare professionals in a hospital setting or other health care situations outside the hospital, are generally not recognized as safe and effective (often due to inadequate data). Remember that the antiseptic only reduces microorganisms on the tissue surface and that antibiotics will be needed to treat the infection within the tissues.<\/p>\n<p>People with <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1137\">allergies<\/span> of any kind you should consult a doctor or pharmacist before using an over the counter antiseptic product. Some antiseptics can irritate the skin and cause allergic contact dermatitis.
