Both forms of radiation can cause abnormal growth of atypicals. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1660\">spindle cells<\/span>. They are believed to come from fibrous cells in the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"61\">dermis<\/span> or of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"846\">epidermal<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1069\">keratinocytes<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQuien-contrae-fibroxantoma-atipico\"><\/span>Who gets atypical fibroxanthoma?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Reports have shown an increase <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"578\">incidence<\/span> of atypical fibroxanthoma in patients with acquired immunodeficiency <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"350\">syndrome<\/span> (AIDS) and in immunocompromised patients, for example due to an organ <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1793\">transplant<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Atypical fibroxanthoma affects both sexes equally, with a mean age of 69 years at the time of diagnosis.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCuales-son-las-caracteristicas-clinicas-del-fibroxantoma-atipico\"><\/span>What are the clinical characteristics of atypical fibroxanthoma?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Atypical fibroxanthoma often appears in areas that have received excessive sun exposure, usually around the scalp, ears, nose, cheeks, and back of the neck, or in areas where people may have previously received <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1325\">radiotherapy<\/span> treatment. Small lesions can be removed by curettage.
