<\/span>What is the treatment for uremic pruritus?<\/span><\/h2>\nThe first step in treatment is to optimize dialysis. effectiveness<\/span>. It is also important to try to reduce serum<\/span> parathyroid hormone to normalize calcium \/ phosphorus.<\/p>\nDry skin can be managed by using soap-free cleansers and applying emollients<\/span> like sorbolene cream<\/span> or petroleum jelly several times a day.<\/p>\nMenthol and camphor can be added to a emollient<\/span> to cool the skin and relieve itching. Any localized itching can be reduced by frequent applications of current<\/span> capsaicin if tolerated.<\/p>\nUVB phototherapy is the mainstay of treatment for severe uremic itching. Oral antihistamines and systemic steroids are generally not effective.<\/p>\n
