data-term-id=\"558\">genetic<\/span> disorder predominantly manifested by <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"385\">scaly<\/span> or crusted <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"366\">papules<\/span>. I like it <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"22\">benign<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"849\">family<\/span> pemphigus (Hailey-Hailey disease), Darier&#039;s disease is classified as <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1745\">hereditary<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1344\">acantholytic<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"60\">skin disease<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Also known as Darier-White disease, Darier&#039;s disease was previously called &#039;<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1595\">keratosis<\/span> follicular &quot;, but this is incorrect because squamous papules do not arise from <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"122\">hair<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1301\">follicles<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQuien-contrae-la-enfermedad-de-Darier\"><\/span>Who gets Darier&#039;s disease?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The onset of skin changes is usually in adolescence and the disease is usually <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"319\">chronic<\/span>. Darier&#039;s disease is inherited in a <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"828\">autosomal<\/span> dominant pattern, meaning that a single <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"774\">gene<\/span> Past of a parent causes the condition. The chance that a child will inherit the abnormal gene if one parent is affected is 1 in 2 (50%), but not everyone with the abnormal gene will develop symptoms of the disease.<\/p>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCual-es-la-causa-de-la-enfermedad-de-Darier\"><\/span>What is the cause of Darier&#039;s disease?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The abnormal gene in Darier&#039;s disease has been identified as <em>ATP2A2<\/em>, found in <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1271\">chromosome<\/span> 12q23-24.1. This gene codes for SERCA <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1525\">enzyme<\/span> or pump (sarcoendoplasmic reticulum calcium-ATPase) that is required to transport calcium within the cell. The exact mechanism by which this abnormal gene causes the disease is still under investigation, but it appears that the way skin cells come together may be affected. Skin cells (<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1069\">keratinocytes<\/span>) are held together through structures called <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"62\">desmosomes<\/span> and it seems that desmosomes don&#039;t assemble properly if there isn&#039;t enough calcium.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFComo-se-diagnostica-la-enfermedad-de-Darier\"><\/span>How is Darier&#039;s disease diagnosed?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Darier&#039;s disease is usually diagnosed by its appearance and family history, but is often mistaken for other skin problems.<\/p>\n<p>Diagnosis may require skin <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"24\">biopsy<\/span>. the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"128\">histology<\/span> is characteristic, known as <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"489\">focal<\/span> acantholytic <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"72\">dyskeratosis<\/span> associated with varying degrees of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"215\">papillomatosis<\/span>. The pathological features are similar to transient acantholytic dermatosis (Grover&#039;s disease).<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCuales-son-las-caracteristicas-clinicas-de-la-enfermedad-de-Darier\"><\/span>What are the clinical features of Darier&#039;s disease?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The symptoms and signs of Darier&#039;s disease vary markedly between individuals. Some have very subtle signs that are <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"731\">asymptomatic<\/span> and found only on careful inspection. Others have extensive injuries that can cause considerable distress to the affected individual. In an affected person, the severity of the disease can fluctuate over time. <\/p>\n<p>Skin lesions are characterized by persistent, greasy and scaly papules. Affected sites include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"378\">Seborrheic<\/span> areas of the face (margins of the scalp, forehead, ears, around the nostrils and the sides of the nose, eyebrows and beard area)<\/li>\n<li>Scalp and neck<\/li>\n<li>Central chest and back<\/li>\n<li>Skin folds, such as armpits, groin, under the breasts and between the buttocks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The papules have a firm, hard feel like thick sandpaper and can be skin-colored, yellow-brown, or brown. If several of the small papules grow together, they can form larger <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"301\">warty<\/span> lesions that can smell quite deep inside the skin folds. Other signs may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Small holes in the palms and soles.<\/li>\n<li>Bleeding under the skin <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"324\">located<\/span> The variant of Darier&#039;s disease, in which the papules on the hands and feet are the main feature, is called Hopf&#039;s acrokeratosis verruciforme.<\/p>\n<p>Most patients with Darier&#039;s disease will have broad white and reddish longitudinal stripes on some or all of their nails. Overgum growth can also occur.<\/p>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pronostico-y-complicaciones-de-la-enfermedad-de-Darier\"><\/span>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"241\">Forecast<\/span> and complications of Darier&#039;s disease<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Most affected patients develop signs of Darier&#039;s disease before age 30.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Many have mild and unnoticed Darier&#039;s disease.<\/li>\n<li>The most serious disease may have a chronic, relapsing-remitting pattern.<\/li>\n<li>The signs may disappear entirely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Outbreaks can be caused by any of the following factors.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Exposure to sunlight or heat.<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1330\">Current<\/span> corticosteroids<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"937\">Bacterial<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"145\">infection<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Herpes simplex infection - including severe varicelliform Kaposi <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"704\">eruption<\/span> (see <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"491\">eczema<\/span> herpetic).  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In most patients, general health remains good, regardless of the severity of the disease.<\/p>\n<section class=\"textBlock imageLinkBlockTitle\">\n<h5 class=\"colour--primary\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Erupcion-variceliforme-de-Kaposi-en-la-enfermedad-de-Darier\"><\/span>Kaposi&#039;s varicelliform rash in Darier&#039;s disease<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<\/section>\n<section class=\"imageLinkBlock\">\n<div class=\"flex\">\n<div class=\"imageLinkBlock__item__image\">\n<p>                        <img alt='darier-hs__protectwyjqcm90zwn0il0_focusfillwzi5ncwymjisingildfd-5053627-5282924' src='https:\/\/doctorhoogstra.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/darier-hs__ProtectWyJQcm90ZWN0Il0_FocusFillWzI5NCwyMjIsIngiLDFd-5053627.jpg'>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"p-small\">Darier&#039;s disease<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<div class=\"clearfix imageLinkBlock\"><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCual-es-el-tratamiento-de-la-enfermedad-de-Darier\"><\/span>What is the treatment of Darier&#039;s disease?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Treatment of Darier&#039;s disease is only required if there are troublesome symptoms. Mild illness can be managed with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Moisturizers<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Solar protection <\/li>\n<li>Careful selection of clothing to avoid heat and sweating.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Localized Darier&#039;s disease can be treated by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"762\">retinoids<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Dermabrasion \n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Secondary bacterial infection (usually due to Staphylococcus aureus) should be treated with antibiotics. Herpes simplex is treated with acyclovir or valacyclovir.<\/p>\n<p>Severe Darier&#039;s disease is generally treated with oral retinoids, either acitretin or isotretinoin.
