stable <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1631\">malformation<\/span> of a skin component. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"354\">Naevi<\/span> (American spelling Nevi) are often present at birth, when they are often called brown birthmarks. Naevi composed of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"181\">melanocytes<\/span> (the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"231\">pigment<\/span> cells that produce <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"180\">melanin<\/span>) They are called <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"785\">melanocytic<\/span> naevi or <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1520\">pigmented<\/span> naevi.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQue-son-Ota-Ito-y-Hori-naevi\"><\/span>What are Ota, Ito and Hori naevi?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Nevi of Ota, Nevi of Ito, and Nevi of Hori are special melanocytic nevi that have a slate brown or blue \/ gray coloration. Specific <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"871\">mutations<\/span> they have been detected within dermal melanocytes, most frequently GNAQ or GNA11. Researchers have suggested that hormones play a role in its development. The role of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1908\">Ultraviolet radiation<\/span> it is believed to be small, as it does not reach deep dermal melanocytes.<\/p>\n<p>Ota&#039;s naevus is much more common than Ito&#039;s neevus. These nevi are present at birth in 50% of cases, but can appear during adolescence or adult life. Naevus of Hori is not present at birth and is therefore a form of acquired melanocytosis.<\/p>\n<p>Naevi de Ota and Ito are most commonly found in Asian populations; 0.2-0.6% of the Japanese have a nevus of Ota. They appear more often in women. Both forms of nevi are rare in Caucasians.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCuales-son-los-signos-sintomas-y-complicaciones-de-la-melanocitosis-dermica\"><\/span>What are the signs, symptoms, and complications of dermal melanocytosis?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>In all forms of dermal melanocytosis:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Color may vary to include brown-purple, purple-blue, or blue-green shades<\/li>\n<li>Naevi present in childhood can slowly grow and darken until they reach adulthood.<\/li>\n<li>The color or perceived color of nevi may change according to personal and environmental conditions, eg. fatigue, menstruation, hot weather<\/li>\n<li>If it affects the eye, melanocytosis rarely causes <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"975\">glaucoma<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"176\">Evil one<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1670\">melanoma<\/span> it very rarely develops within dermal melanocytosis, and has generally been reported in Caucasians. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"981\">Ocular<\/span> Melanoma of the choroid, brain, orbit, iris, ciliary body, and optic nerve has rarely been reported in association with a nevus of Ota.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFComo-se-realiza-el-diagnostico-de-melanocitosis-dermica\"><\/span>How is the diagnosis of dermal melanocytosis made?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The diagnosis of dermal melanocytosis is usually made by looking at the typical discoloration of the skin. It is classified according to the affected site.<\/p>\n<p>Some patients can undergo the skin. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"24\">biopsy<\/span>, which confirms the presence of melanocytes in the dermis.<\/p>\n<p>Other skin conditions that result in bluish or gray skin can be considered. These include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blue nevus<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Drug induced <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1521\">pigmentation<\/span>, most often due to minocycline, a tetracycline antibiotic<\/li>\n<li>Melasma<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1621\">Post-inflammatory<\/span> pigmentation<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Pigmented and ashy lichen planus <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"60\">skin disease<\/span>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQue-tratamientos-hay-disponibles-para-la-melanocitosis\"><\/span>What treatments are available for melanocytosis?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Treatment for a melanocytosis may include cosmetic camouflage to cover the disfiguring marks, and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1617\">To be<\/span> treatment (generally using 1064nm <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1406\">Q changed<\/span> Nd: YAG, Alexandrite or QS ruby laser) or intense pulsed light (IPL).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p>The picosecond laser may be the most effective device.<\/li>\n<li>Laser and light devices work by destroying dermal melanocytes.<\/li>\n<li>Multiple treatments are necessary, often with a combination of devices.<\/li>\n<li>Laser treatment is more effective in treating melanocytosis in fair-skinned individuals compared to those with dark skin.<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1074\">Reappearance<\/span> is common after laser lightening, sometimes it results in a darker shade than before treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the eye is affected, regular eye exams should be arranged to detect glaucoma.
