Their occupation is associated with work-related skin disorders, including contact. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"53\">dermatitis<\/span> and mechanical injuries among others. In a study in Poland, for example, it was found that the 21% of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"122\">hair<\/span> Stylists and beauticians had some form of occupational skin disease.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFPor-que-las-esteticistas-tienen-un-alto-riesgo-de-sufrir-trastornos-cutaneos-ocupacionales\"><\/span>Why are beauticians at high risk for occupational skin disorders?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"normal\">There are many factors that put estheticians at high occupational risk, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A lot of wet work due to contact with water while shampooing<\/li>\n<li>Exposure to a variety of preservatives, hair dyes, fragrances, and other chemicals in many beauty products, including formaldehyde, acetone, and paraphenylenediamine.<\/li>\n<li>Exposure to sharp instruments like scissors and razor blades.<\/li>\n<li>Exposure to cleaning chemicals and disinfectants.\n<\/li>\n<li>Intensive use of latex gloves that can lead to latex development. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1136\">allergy<\/span> and contact allergy to rubber accelerators\n<\/li>\n<li>A preponderance of low-paid workers with low levels of education.<\/li>\n<li>Lack of sufficient regulation in many countries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"normal\">In many studies of occupational dermatitis, estheticians are cited as having the highest risk of developing work-related skin disorders.<\/p>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Comprender-los-trastornos-cutaneos-ocupacionales\"><\/span>Understanding occupational skin disorders<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"normal\">An occupational skin disorder is a dermatological condition caused by a patient&#039;s work or work duties. It is also called <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"60\">skin disease<\/span>. Occupational <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"329\">skin disease<\/span> They are responsible for many lost days or work. The patient may have to change professions due to an ongoing skin disease. These dermatoses can occur through occupational exposure to <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"409\">Allergens<\/span>, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1443\">irritants<\/span>, extreme weather conditions and solar radiation. Occupational skin disorders have a major economic impact on employers and employees. <\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trastornos-de-la-piel-asociados-con-esteticistas\"><\/span>Skin disorders associated with beauticians.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"normal\">There are several specific skin disorders associated with working as a beautician. They include:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"normal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lesion-mecanica\"><\/span>Mechanical injury<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"normal\">Skin lesion:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It often results from contact with scissors, razors, or other tools \/ equipment. <\/li>\n<li>It leads to secondary <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"937\">bacterial<\/span> skin infections, especially from <em>Staphylococcus aureus<\/em> or <em>Streptococcus pyogenes <\/em>\n<\/li>\n<li>The risk can be reduced by training the employee to handle sharp objects and if an employer agrees to provide safe and up-to-date tools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"normal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Irritante-dermatitis-de-contacto\"><\/span>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1168\">Irritating<\/span> contact dermatitis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"normal\">Irritant contact dermatitis is more common than allergic contact dermatitis. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The primary cause of irritant contact dermatitis is &quot;wet work,&quot; or a large amount of exposure to water, as well as soaps and shampoos during client care and hand washing.<\/li>\n<li>The irritation comes from the constant removal of the skin&#039;s natural moisturizing factors during wet work.<\/li>\n<li>Younger beauticians, who perform a proportionally greater amount of shampoo, have a higher risk of irritating contact dermatitis than older beauticians.<\/li>\n<li>The risk can be mitigated by wearing gloves for hand protection during wet work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"normal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dermatitis-alergica-de-contacto\"><\/span>Allergic contact dermatitis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"normal\">Allergic contact dermatitis is common among estheticians.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Taken together, allergic and irritant contact dermatitis represents the 90% of professional skin disorders for estheticians.<\/li>\n<li>Allergic contact dermatitis causes <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"148\">inflammation<\/span>, dryness, itching and \/ or pain in the skin exposed to <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"408\">allergen<\/span>.\n<\/li>\n<li>Those with a history of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1542\">atopy<\/span> (especially <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"922\">atopic<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"491\">eczema<\/span>) have a higher risk.<\/li>\n<li>The skin will often improve when you are away from work, but will regress when work is resumed.<\/li>\n<li>Common causes include rubber gloves, fragrances, preservatives, and hair dye.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"normal\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fitofotodermatitis\"><\/span>Phytophotodermatitis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"normal\">Phytophotodermatitis is not so <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"309\">extended<\/span> among beauticians like contact dermatitis, but it is still a risk.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Occupational phytophotodermatitis is caused by exposing the skin first to perfumes or eau de cologne and then to sunlight (berloque dermatitis).<\/li>\n<li>Can result in <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"135\">hyperpigmentation<\/span> of the skin<\/li>\n<li>The risk can be reduced through the proper use of gloves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 class=\"normalCxSpMiddle\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Contacto-urticaria\"><\/span>Contact <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1646\">urticaria<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"normalCxSpLast\">Contact urticaria refers to the rapid onset of itching <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1933\">cure<\/span> in contact with an allergen or irritant in a susceptible individual. Glove use has been shown to reduce exposure to a variety of irritants and allergens. However, if the gloves contain latex or accelerators such as thiuram, they can become allergens. The use of non-latex gloves, and training in proper donning and removal, can reduce these problems.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Consejos-para-el-cuidado-de-las-manos-para-esteticistas\"><\/span>Tips for hand care for beauticians<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"normal\">Tips for hand care include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Proper use of gloves (see above)<\/li>\n<li>Good hand washing and use of alcohol based gels or disinfectants when appropriate<\/li>\n<li>Dry hands thoroughly after washing.<\/li>\n<li>Use of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1888\">emollients<\/span> and moisturizers\n<\/li>\n<li>Recognition of the first signs of dermatitis.\n<\/li>\n<li>Seek medical help if signs and symptoms appear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Diagnostico-y-tratamiento-de-trastornos-cutaneos-ocupacionales\"><\/span>Diagnosis and treatment of occupational skin disorders.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"normal\">The diagnosis of an occupational skin disorder can be based on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete patient history and physical examination<\/li>\n<li>Occupational evaluation of the patient to know the work history, conditions, chemicals or other hazards in the patient&#039;s workplace, the use of protective equipment, etc.<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"224\">Patch<\/span> Test if allergic contact dermatitis is suspected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"normal\">Dermatitis treatment may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Avoid allergen or irritant (skin can recover in a matter of several weeks avoiding completely)<\/li>\n<li>Use of emollients.  <\/li>\n<li>Use of gloves\n<\/li>\n<li>Use of <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1330\">current<\/span> and \/ or oral corticosteroids to reduce inflammation<\/li>\n<li>Referral to a <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"54\">dermatologist<\/span> If the skin problem persists or resists simple treatments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introducci\u00f3n Las esteticistas representan una profesi\u00f3n bastante grande en todo el mundo.
