<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"704\">eruption<\/span>?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>A fixed drug rash is a <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1335\">allergic reaction<\/span> to a medication that characteristically recurs at the same site or sites each time a particular medication is taken. <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The number of sites involved may increase over time.<\/li>\n<li>Usually only one medication is involved, although independent lesions from more than one medication have been described.<\/li>\n<li>Cross-sensitivity to related medications may occur, and there are occasional reports of same-site recurrences induced by medications that appear to be chemically unrelated.<\/li>\n<li>Sometimes the inducing drug can be re-administered without causing the symptoms to come back. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"224\">patch<\/span>(es), and there may be a refractory period during which no reaction can occur after the onset of the fixed drug eruption.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFComo-ocurre-la-erupcion-de-drogas-fija\"><\/span>How does fixed drug rash occur?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>It is unclear exactly how a fixed drug rash arises and why only certain areas of the skin are affected. <\/p>\n<p>It is believed that a <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"410\">antigen<\/span> of the active drug <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"435\">cytotoxic<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"417\">T cells<\/span> at <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"85\">epidermis<\/span>. These launch <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"434\">cytokines<\/span> (<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"490\">inflammatory<\/span> mediators), such as interferon-\u03b3, granzyme B and perforin. Cytokines, with helper T cells and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"196\"><span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"442\">neutrophils<\/span><\/span>, destroys local skin cells (<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1069\">keratinocytes<\/span> and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"181\">melanocytes<\/span>) Cytotoxic T cells remain in the epidermis and release more cytokines when re-exposed to the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1714\">causal drug<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFComo-se-ve-la-erupcion-de-drogas-fija\"><\/span>What does fixed drug rash look like?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Fixed drug rash presents as well-defined round or oval patches of redness and swelling of the skin, sometimes surpassed by a blister. This then fades to a purple or brown color and the blister shrinks and peels off. At first, they are sometimes solitary, but with repeated attacks, new lesions may appear and existing lesions may increase in size.<\/p>\n<p>As healing occurs, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"966\">crust<\/span> and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"384\">climbing<\/span> They are followed by a persistent dark brown color at the site. This may fade but often persists between attacks. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1521\">Pigmentation<\/span> It tends to be more extensive and pronounced in people with dark skin. These are often <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1628\">intertriginous<\/span> sites. Most reactions are due to the following medications.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paracetamol\/phenacetin and other pain relievers <\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Tetracycline antibiotics; doxycycline, minocycline<\/li>\n<li>Sulfonamide antibiotics including <span>trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazole<\/span>, sulfasalazine <\/li>\n<li>Acetylsalicylic acid\/aspirin <\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"635\">NSAID<\/span>) including ibuprofen <\/li>\n<li>Sedatives including barbiturates, benzodiazepines and chlordiazepoxide <\/li>\n<li>Hyoscine butyl bromide <\/li>\n<li>Dapsone<\/li>\n<li>Phenolphthalein (an old-fashioned laxative for constipation)<\/li>\n<li>Quinine  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00bfQu\u00e9 es un medicamento fijo? erupci\u00f3n?
