It affects 1\u20132% in adults.<\/p>\n<p>It is generally due to <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"319\">chronic<\/span> irritation such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>biting your cheeks or lips<\/li>\n<li>rub off a rough tooth<\/li>\n<li>dentures or other dental prostheses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCuales-son-las-caracteristicas-clinicas-de-un-fibroma-oral\"><\/span>What are the clinical features of an oral fibroma?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>An oral fibroma presents as a smooth firm <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"217\">papule<\/span> in the mouth. It is usually the same color as the rest of the lining of the mouth, but it is sometimes paler or, if it has bled, it may appear dark in color. The surface may be ulcerated due to <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1365\">trauma<\/span>or get rough and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"385\">scaly<\/span>. It is usually dome shaped, but may have a short stem like a polyp (<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"226\">pedunculated<\/span>) If it has developed under dentures, it may be flat in the shape of a leaf.<\/p>\n<p>The most common location for an oral fibroid is on the inside of the cheek, where the upper and lower teeth meet. Other common sites include the sides of the tongue, the gums, and the inside of the lower lip.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from feel and appearance, oral <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"338\">fibroids<\/span> It does not cause any symptoms. Oral fibroids develop over weeks or months to reach a maximum size, usually about 1 cm in diameter, but can sometimes be larger.<\/p>\n<p>An oral fibroid is usually a loner. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"164\">injury<\/span>. When there are many lesions, associated diagnoses should be considered, including tuberous <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"260\">sclerosis<\/span>Cowden <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"350\">syndrome<\/span>, <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"849\">family<\/span> fibromatosis and <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"369\">fibrotic<\/span> papillary hyperplasia of the palate.<\/p>\n<p>Oral fibroids do not turn into oral <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"30\">Cancer<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to fibroid irritation, there are other well-recognized types of oral fibroma:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oral elastofibroma<\/li>\n<li>Epulis fissuratum <\/li>\n<li><span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"738\">Giant cell<\/span> fibroma<\/li>\n<li>Myofibroma and myofibromatosis<\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1374\">Peripheral<\/span> ossifying fibroma<\/li>\n<li>Peripheral odontogenic fibroma<\/li>\n<li>Retrocuspid <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"373\">papilla<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1342\">Sclerotic<\/span> fibroma.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFComo-se-diagnostica-el-fibroma-oral\"><\/span>How is oral fibroma diagnosed?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The diagnosis of oral fibroma will be suspected clinically when there is the usual history and the results of the examination. A <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"24\">biopsy<\/span> it can be taken to exclude other conditions or to eliminate injury. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"128\">Histology<\/span> shows typical dense fibrous tissue with relatively few cells. The overlying <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"87\">epithelium<\/span> it may be ulcerated, thin, or thickened.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCual-es-el-tratamiento-del-fibroma-oral\"><\/span>What is the treatment of oral fibroma?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>When treatment is required, the only option is surgical <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"848\">excision<\/span> fibroma with narrow margins. It may come back after surgery if the source of irritation continues. Therefore, it is also important to control the source of the irritation.
