The result is a noticeable red stain, often with a surface <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"251\">pustule<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Folliculitis can be superficial or deep. It can affect anywhere there is hair, including the chest, back, buttocks, arms, and legs. If the infection involves the deep part of the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1300\">follicle<\/span>, results in a painful boil. Recommended treatment includes gentle hygiene, antiseptic cleanser, or <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1121\">cream<\/span>antibiotic <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1122\">ointment<\/span>or oral antibiotics.<\/p>\n<p>Spa pool folliculitis is due to an infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which thrives in warm waters with inadequate chlorine. It is treated with high doses of acyclovir.<\/p>\n<p>Molluscum contagiosum, common in young children, can also cause <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"107\">follicular<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"291\">umbilical<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"366\">papules<\/span>, usually grouped in and around a fold of the body. The mollusk can cause <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"53\">dermatitis<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Infeccion-parasita\"><\/span>Parasitic infection<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Folliculitis on the face or scalp of older people or <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1699\">immunosuppressed<\/span> adults may be due to colonization by the hair follicle <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1312\">Mites<\/span> (demodex). Avoid contact with the causal product.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Esteroides-topicos\"><\/span>Topical steroids<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Overuse of topical steroids can lead to folliculitis. <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"227\">Newspaper<\/span> Dermatitis is a facial folliculitis caused by topical moisturizers and steroids. Perioral dermatitis is treated with tetracycline antibiotics for about six weeks.<\/p>\n<div id=\"square-placement-country-holder\" class=\"country-dependent advert\">\n<div class=\"box-placement square-placement\">\n<div class=\"advert__frame\">\n<div id=\"dermnet-dermnet-mobbox\">\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Foliculitis-por-inmunosupresion\"><\/span>Immunosuppressive folliculitis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"449\">Eosinophilic<\/span> Folliculitis is a specific type of folliculitis that can occur in some immunosuppressed people, such as those infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (<span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"127\">HIV<\/span>) or those that have <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"30\">Cancer<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Foliculitis-por-drogas\"><\/span>Drug folliculitis<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Folliculitis can be caused by medications, particularly corticosteroids (steroid acne), <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"985\">androgens<\/span> (male hormones), adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH), lithium, isoniazid (INH), phenytoin, and B complex vitamins.
