<\/span>What Causes Granuloma Annulare?<\/span><\/h2>\nGranuloma annulare is a delay hypersensitivity<\/span> reaction to some component of the dermis<\/span>. Inflammation<\/span> is mediated by tumor<\/span> necrosis<\/span> alpha factor (TNF\u03b1). The reason this occurs is unknown.<\/p>\nLocated<\/span> granuloma annulare is sometimes associated with autoimmune<\/span> thyroiditis, but it does not go away with thyroid replacement. Extensive granuloma annulare is sometimes associated with diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, and rarely with lymphoma<\/span>, HIV<\/span> infection<\/span> and solid<\/span> tumors<\/p>\n<\/span>What are the clinical features of granuloma annulare?<\/span><\/h2>\nGranuloma annulare can occur anywhere on the body and is occasionally quite extended<\/span>. It only affects the skin. Granuloma annulare may not cause symptoms, but the affected areas are often tender when struck. Plates tend to slowly change shape, size, and position.<\/p>\n<\/span>Localized granuloma annulare<\/span><\/h3>\nThe localized form is the most common type of granuloma annulare in children. One or more skin-colored bumps occur in rings on the skin over the joints, particularly the knuckles. The center of each ring is often a little depressed. - Unusually severe or symptomatic granuloma annulare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/span>\nInterstitial<\/span> granulomatous<\/span> dermatitis<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/h3>\nInterstitial granulomatous dermatitis is a pathological finding observed in some patients with extensive granuloma annulare or other disorders with a similar clinical presentation.<\/p>\n
<\/span>How is granuloma annulare diagnosed?<\/span><\/h2>\nMost often, granuloma annulare is recognized clinically due to its characteristic appearance. But sometimes the diagnosis is not obvious, and other conditions can be considered. <\/span>What treatment is available for granuloma annulare?<\/span><\/h2>\nIn most cases of granuloma annulare, no treatment is required because the patches disappear on their own within a few months, without leaving a trace. However, they sometimes persist for years. Treatment is not always successful.<\/p>\n
<\/span>Local therapy<\/span><\/h3>\nOptions to consider include:<\/p>\n
\n- \nCurrent<\/span> corticosteroid ointment<\/span> below occlusion<\/span>\n<\/li>\n
- Intralesional steroid injections<\/li>\n
- Destruction by cryotherapy<\/span> or To be<\/span> ablation<\/span>\n<\/li>\n
- Imiquimod cream<\/span><\/li>\n
- Topical calcineurin inhibitors (tacrolimus and pimecrolimus)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
<\/span>\nSystemic<\/span> therapy<\/span><\/h3>\nSystemic therapy can be considered in generalized granuloma annulare. The following treatments have been reported to help at least some cases of disseminated granuloma annulare. Neither of these can be trusted to eliminate it, and there are some potential adverse effects.<\/p>\n
