Understanding driver mutations is leading to new treatments for advanced melanoma.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mutant <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1085\">BRAF<\/span> is at approximately 50% <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1671\">melanomas<\/span>, especially those diagnosed in people under 55 years of age. It is also found in numerous harmless moles. BRAF stops the growth of moles by inducing senescence (old age) and growth arrest in the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"181\">melanocytes<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>Mutations in NRAS are found in the 20% of melanomas.<\/li>\n<li>C-KIT abnormalities are reported in some melanomas arising on the soles of the feet, under the <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"193\">nail<\/span> and in <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"188\">mucous<\/span> membranes<\/li>\n<li>GNAQ and GNA11 mutations are associated with melanoma in the eye.<\/li>\n<li>Driver mutations are not found in approximately one third of melanomas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Los-genes-explican-familiar-melanoma\"><\/span>Genes explain <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"849\">family<\/span> melanoma<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Some families are said to have familial melanoma, which is due to gene mutations that are passed down from parents to children and may be clinically associated <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1395\">atypical<\/span> <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"354\">naevi<\/span> and pathologically <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"1829\">dysplastic<\/span> naevi. Melanoma caused by inherited genes is suspected if two or more first-degree relatives (father, brother, sister, or son) are diagnosed with melanoma.<\/p>\n<p>Several specific mutations have been described in different melanoma families. Around 40% has mutations in CDKN2A <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"774\">gene<\/span>. Affected members of families with this abnormality tend to have many large moles.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Los-genes-explican-el-color-de-la-piel\"><\/span>Genes explain skin color.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The color of the skin depends in part on the activity of melanocortin 1 <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"782\">receiver<\/span> (MC1R) gen.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People with higher MC1R activity have black \/ brown eumelanin and easily tan when exposed to UVR.<\/li>\n<li>People with minimal MC1R activity have red <span class=\"term\" data-term-id=\"122\">hair<\/span> and fair skin, due to the red \/ yellow pigment of pheomelanin.<\/li>\n<li>Pheomelanin blocks UVR poorly compared to eumelanin, so people with red hair and fair skin are at the highest risk of developing melanoma.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The interferon regulatory factor 4 gene is also a melanoma susceptibility gene associated with fair skin and freckles.<\/p>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introducci\u00f3n Aunque la causa principal de melanoma es el sol, genes Tambi\u00e9n son importantes.
