¿Qué son los quistes sebáceos testiculares?

Los quistes sebáceos, también conocidos como quistes epidermoides, son tumores benignos que se forman cuando la queratina bloquea el orificio por donde sale el sebo producido por la glándula sebácea. Estos quistes suelen ser de color blanco amarillento y tienden a desarrollarse en áreas donde hay pelo, como el cuero cabelludo, el pecho, la espalda, la cara, la parte superior del brazo, el escroto y el pene.

Causas de los quistes sebáceos testiculares

Los quistes sebáceos pueden ser causados por diferentes factores, como un trauma en la piel, altos niveles de testosterona o una predisposición genética. Es importante conocer estos factores para entender mejor cómo prevenir su aparición.

¿Es necesario extirpar los quistes sebáceos en los genitales?

En general, los quistes sebáceos testiculares no suelen generar dolor ni afectar las relaciones sexuales o la fertilidad. Dado que son tumores benignos, no degeneran en cáncer. Sin embargo, pueden infectarse, provocando la aparición de un pequeño grano de pus. Aunque la mayoría de las veces son asintomáticos y no requieren tratamiento, puede ser necesario extirparlos si son muy visibles, supuran mucho o causan fiebre en el paciente, o por motivos estéticos.

Tratamientos disponibles

Los quistes sebáceos no pueden eliminarse con pomadas ni pastillas. La única opción es la extirpación quirúrgica, un procedimiento sencillo que se realiza con anestesia local y sin necesidad de hospitalización. Esta intervención provoca molestias leves y deja una pequeña cicatriz, cuyo tamaño dependerá del tamaño del quiste.

¿Cómo saber si un quiste está infectado?

Un quiste infectado puede presentar signos como enrojecimiento, dolor a la presión y calor al palparlo. En estos casos, se intenta inicialmente un tratamiento con antibióticos. Si no hay mejoría en 36-48 horas, se procede a su drenaje mediante una incisión con anestesia local y evacuación del contenido infectado.

Eliminación de quistes sebáceos en genitales sin cirugía

Procedimiento con Láser Lotus II

El Láser Lotus II permite realizar el procedimiento sin necesidad de anestesia, ya que su alta velocidad de impacto no genera dolor. Consiste en hacer un pequeño orificio en la pared del quiste para drenar todo su contenido y extraer la cápsula. La piel donde estaba el quiste se contrae, similar a un rejuvenecimiento facial no quirúrgico con láser. Este procedimiento no deja cicatrices y el paciente puede retomar sus actividades de inmediato.

Sebaceous cysts can be caused by skin trauma and high levels of testosterone, or they can also be inherited.

Is it necessary to remove these cysts in the genitals?

It is important to note that they do not usually generate pain, nor do they affect sexual relations, or fertility . Because they are benign tumors they do not degenerate into any type of cancer. The biggest drawback they can generate is that they get infected causing a small grain of pus. Most of the time they are asymptomatic and do not require any treatment. It may only be necessary to remove them when they are very visible or suppurate a lot generating fever in the patient, or,  for aesthetic reasons .

A sebaceous cyst cannot be removed with any ointment or pill. The only possibility is  surgical removal . It is a simple intervention that is carried out under local anesthesia without the need for hospitalization and that causes mild discomfort.

How to remove these cysts?

They don’t usually give problems unless they get infected. The  data that indicate that you may be infected  are: redness, pressure pain and heat when palpating the cyst.
In this situation, an initial treatment with antibiotics is attempted, but if these do not improve the situation in 48-36 h, the most correct thing is to proceed to its drainage by making an incision on it with local anesthesia, and evacuating its contents infected.

Elimination of sebaceous cysts in genitals without surgery

The most commonly performed treatment is surgery. The operation consists of resecting the skin with the cyst, the anesthesia used can be local or general. This procedure leaves scars whose size will depend on the size of the cyst and also on the amount.

However, in our Medical Centers we treat epidermal cysts with the Erbium Laser (Lotus II) or with the Carbon Dioxide Laser (Firexel-Morexel) . The Dr. Ricardo Hoogstra has developed a new treatment to remove these cysts permanently. A laser incision is made through which it drains the contents and removes the capsule. It is a painless, ambulatory, effective procedure and leaves no scars .

With the Lotus II Laser , anesthesia is not necessary , since the high impact speed of the laser does not generate pain. The procedure consists of making a hole in the cyst wall through which we drain all its contents and extract the capsule. The skin where the cyst lodged is contracted as we do when we perform a non-surgical laser facial rejuvenation.

This procedure leaves no scars and the patient can return immediately to his activity.
