Los quistes sebáceos son bultos benignos que se forman bajo la piel debido a la obstrucción y la inflamación de los folículos pilosos. Aunque generalmente no son peligrosos, pueden causar molestias estéticas y, en algunos casos, llegar a infectarse.

Cuadro Clínico de los Quistes Sebáceos

Los quistes sebáceos suelen localizarse en áreas como la cara, el cuello y el tronco. Sus características clínicas más comunes son:

• Movilidad: Se mueven libremente bajo la piel.
• Crecimiento: Crecen lentamente con el tiempo.
• Dor: No suelen causar dolor a menos que se infecten.

Cuando un quiste sebáceo se infecta, puede presentar los siguientes signos y síntomas:

• Enrojecimiento de la piel: La piel alrededor del quiste puede ponerse roja.
• Dor: Puede haber dolor en la zona afectada.
• Aumento de la temperatura local: La piel sobre el quiste puede sentirse más caliente al tacto.
• Drenaje: Se puede observar la salida de un material blanco grisáceo y caseoso.

Treatment of Sebaceous Cysts with Laser

The conventional treatment was surgical, resection of the cyst with neighboring skin. The new thing is the laser treatment. At Hoogstra Medical Centers we perform a novel laser treatment for sebaceous cysts and boils that consists of making a small hole in the most protuberant part of the cyst. Thanks to the high impact speed of the Lotus III laser, it is not necessary to perform local anesthesia or place anesthetic creams. Once the hole is made, the cyst is drained and, after drainage, the Lotus III Laser is programmed  in a long pulse mode. This causes contraction of the walls of the sack and the contraction thereof.

After this procedure, the patient can continue his daily life. This procedure is completely painless and leaves no scar.
