Wearing clothes is the most effective way to stop the sun ultraviolet rays to reach your skin. Today you can buy clothes made from specially made sunscreen fabrics. These garments will be labeled with a UV Protection factor (UPF) rating; the higher the number, the better the protection. Please note that UPF protection is not equivalent to the SPF rating used for sunscreens; Clothing labeled UPF 50 provides much better protection than sunscreen labeled SPF 50.
However, it is not necessary to buy special clothing to avoid the sun's rays. Here are some tips for choosing what to wear to stay safe from the sun:
- Wear shirts or blouses with long sleeves and high collars or necklines, long pants, and long skirts.
- Wear dark colored clothing instead of white. This provides 5 times more protection because the dye absorbs UV rays.
- Wear clothing made of tight fabric. Keep the material in the light and see how much light comes in. The less light you see, the better the protection.
- Wear loose clothing - The pleats in loose clothing double your protection from the sun.
- Put on dry clothing after swimming or getting wet, as wet material is often much less protective.
If you or your family spend a lot of time outdoors, especially doing activities in the water, it is a good idea to invest in bathing suits, such as long sleeves. eruption Top and long shorts made of sunscreen fabric with a very high UPF.
Don't forget your feet! Jandals are great to wear during the summer, but they don't provide much protection. If you can't do without jandals or sandals, be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen on your feet.
