Lymphangioma circumscriptum pathology

Introduction

Lymphangioma circumscriptum occurs on the skin surface as thin-walled grape-shaped clusters, translucentfull of lymph vesicles, often compared to spawning frog. Hemorrhage inside the lesions it can create a deep red or black appearance.

Histology lymphangioma circumscriptum

In lymphangioma circumscriptum, histopathological exam reveals acanthosis and hyperkeratosis of epidermis (Figure 1). Inside the papillary and lattice dermisthere are dilated lymphatic channels containing eosinophilic protein material in the papillary dermis (Figures 2.3).

Generally none is needed. The lymphatic architecture can be highlighted with immunohistochemical markers like D2-40.

Differential diagnosis for lymphangioma circumscriptum

Angiokeratoma It may look very similar to lymphangioma circumscriptum but is made up of blood vessels containing blood instead of lymphatic containing lymphatic fluid
