Introduction
Elastofibroma usually presents in the back (usually in the subscapular region) as a poorly defined mass or pseudotumor. Also called elastofibroma dorsi. Repetitive Manual labor is believed to lead to degeneration of elastic and fibrous tissues.
Histology elastofibroma
In elastofibroma, the histopathology shows a dense accumulation of eosinophilic tissue irregularly interdigitated into adipose tissue (figure 1). An examination of greater power shows collagen alternating bundles with large, thick eosinophils elastic fibers (Figures 2–4).

Special studies for elastofibroma.
Elastic spots can be used to highlight morphology of abnormal elastic fibers. Elastic fibers can fragment into linear globules, which are described as beads on a string.
the differential diagnosis for elastofibroma
Other diagnoses to consider include:
- From the nape fibroma - They generally do not have the characteristic abnormal elastic fibers seen in elastofibroma.
- Desmoid fibromatosis: this is more cellular and infiltrators skeletal muscle; the characteristic abnormal elastic fibers observed in elastofibroma are absent.
