What are dark circles?

Dark circles are a complex condition influenced by various anatomical factors. Below are the main factors that contribute to its appearance:

1. Fat bags on the lower eyelid.
2. Malar fat volume loss due to aging or genetic factors.
3. Lower eyelid lengthening, caused by aging or lack of volume in the malar region.
4. Groove or tear canal, produced by aging or constitutional predisposition.
5. Skin factors, related to the texture, color and wrinkles of the skin.

Most patients with dark circles have a lack of volume in the malar region. To effectively correct dark circles, it is essential to restore lost volume in this area.

Aesthetic Impact of Dark Circles

Dark circles make the face less attractive, giving an appearance of tiredness and sadness. They are often believed to be difficult to treat, but each case can be addressed with specialized and personalized treatment.

Treatment with Hyaluronic Acid

Patient 1

This patient had bags in her lower eyelid, which were removed through a transconjunctival incision, a procedure that leaves no visible scars. To improve the appearance of the skin, a carbon dioxide laser was used to lighten and tighten the skin. Additionally, volume was added to the malar region with hyaluronic acid. All of this was done in less than 30 minutes under local anesthesia and sedation.

Patient 2

In this case study, the same procedure that had previously been performed on another patient was performed on Patient 2. This treatment focuses on the correction of certain facial features to improve aesthetic appearance, focusing primarily on the vertical linea nigra that extends from the tarsal edge to the palpebromalar junction.

Patient 3

This patient had dark circles under her eyes due to aging, with eyelid bags and wrinkles, as well as a lack of volume in the malar region. An advanced eyelid surgery technique was performed without visible scars, combined with carbon dioxide laser facial rejuvenation and malar volume augmentation.

Process:

• Eyelid surgery without visible scars (Hoogstra technique).
• Facial rejuvenation with carbon dioxide laser.

Treatment Performed

Procedure:

• Application of two ampoules of hyaluronic acid, one on each cheekbone.

Immediate Results Observed:

1. Attenuation of the bags of the lower eyelid due to the increase in volume in the cheekbone, which reduces the protrusion of the bags.
2. Disappearance of the tear canal.
